ASB RESEARCH & PRESENTATION AWARDS
2021 GUIDELINES AND DEADLINES
ASB Student Research Award ($1000) – Sponsored by ASB Patron Martin Microscope – presented to a student member for outstanding research. A written manuscript or publication (published after the previous ASB annual meeting, but not prior) and an oral presentation at the annual meeting are required. Applicant must be a graduate or undergraduate student at the time of presentation, or graduated within 6 months prior to the presentation. Submit via e-mail a manuscript and short biographical sketch to the Chair of the ASB Student Research Award Committee. Applicants should send their manuscript and request for consideration via email to Committee Chair, Dr. Dennis Haney (Dennis.Haney@furman.edu) by Wednesday, 10 February 2021. ASB Research Award ($1000) – presented to an ASB member (students are not eligible for this award) for outstanding research. A written manuscript or publication and an oral presentation at the annual meeting are required. The manuscript must be completed within the two-year period prior to the award submission deadline. The presentation must be given at either the previous or upcoming annual meeting. Applicants should send their manuscript and request for consideration via email to Committee Chair, Dr. Tom Diggs (tom.diggs@ung.edu) by Wednesday, 10 February 2021. Download detailed submission requirements here. ASB Student Oral Presentation Awards ($300) – presented to outstanding student oral presentations at the annual meeting. Students are recognized in one of four categories designed to reflect the breadth of biological disciplines at ASB that are not currently represented through Affiliate Awards. At abstract submission, students may choose no more than one category (Cell and Molecular Biology, Aquatic Biology, Animal Biology, and Microbiology) in which to be considered. One award of $300 will be made in each of the four categories at the closing banquet at the annual meeting. Apply for this award when you submit your abstract for the ASB annual meeting. In addition to submitting your talk abstract, you will be required to submit a 100-word justification of how your work meets the requirements of the award. ASB Student Poster Presentation Awards ($300) – presented to outstanding student poster presentations at the annual meeting. Students are recognized in one of four categories designed to reflect the breadth of biological disciplines at ASB that are not currently represented through Affiliate Awards. At abstract submission, students may choose no more than one category (Cell and Molecular Biology, Aquatic Biology, Animal Biology, and Microbiology) in which to be considered.
